Professional Development and Community Awareness

We take an active role in educating healthcare professionals, donation partners, and the communities we serve about eye donation. PON provides education and training on donation procedures, referral practices, applicable regulations, and donor care, as well as community outreach designed to increase awareness and understanding of the gift of sight.

In-service & Training Opportunities

Eye Banking 101:
An introduction to cornea donation, ocular tissue recovery, processing, safety standards, and transplantation, with a focus on how eye banks partner with surgeons and clinical teams to restore sight and improve patient outcomes.

Handling Human Tissue:
An overview of the procedures required upon receipt of donor tissue, including verification of documentation, inspection of packaging and preservation media, proper storage conditions, and handling practices to maintain tissue integrity and safety until transplantation.

Wet Labs:
An opportunitiy to practice advanced corneal transplantation techniques using donor tissue in a controlled learning environment. These programs support surgical excellence, innovation, and improved patient outcomes. Learn more about Wet Labs here.

Donation Partner Education:
An overview of eye donation, referral procedures, and donor care, with a focus on helping donation partners support the donation process and donor families.
